I can flex it some by holding the seat post and moving the triangle back and forth. This weekend I spent some time with the bike and I am pretty sure now that the problem I am having is the triangle flex. Much more confidence with pedaling issues now. I have changed from the Shimano clip-less to the Crank Brothers Mallet C pedals and went to a shoe not so stiff and easier to hike in, am glad that I did. Overall though I think this is a very good bike for a beginner like me. Learning how to keep it all adjusted and tight is bit frustrating at times. I am pretty rough on it too.all the falling down and stuff I seem to be doing with it. Being my first FS though I have nothing to compare it too. A bit heavy but that just means I need to pedal harder. I sure do appreciate the help and advice. In fact, I was interested in buying one, but the lack of good info about the bike scared me off. I dunno if the 5.0 is prone to flex problems. I've talked to GT Tech Support and they were helpful. Another indication of flex is if the tire rubs against the inside of the chainstays. (If your LBS has a 5.0 in stock, you can compare yours to a new one.) The flex might be coming from the wheel or from the rear triangle. Things should be good and stiff, and if you get much movement back there, you've got a problem. You're trying to torque the wheel to one side. Pull/push the seat tube one way and the wheel in the opposite direction. Unless something is defective, usually only an aggressive and/or heavy rider will push a bike hard enough to get it to flex to the point where things get squirrelly.Ī test: grab the seat tube and the rear wheel. Sounds like flex in the rear triangle or wheel.
